Install and Update SkookumScript UE4 Plugin from zip file

#1

To install the current Unreal Marketplace version of the SkookumScript UE4 Plugin, see instructions on the SkookumScript web site.

It can sometimes take a while for Epic Games to make the latest update to the SkookumScript UE4 Plugin available on the Unreal Marketplace, so in the interim we occasionally provide a pre-built zip file that advanced users can add to the Epic Launcher by hand. Here’s how to do it:

First-time install from zip file

You must have the Unreal Engine installed on your system before you can install the SkookumScript Unreal Engine 4 Plugin.

  1. Locate the main folder of your installed Unreal Engine (for the 4.16 engine, find it at C:\Program Files\Epic Games\4.16).
  2. Download the latest plugin zip file for your engine version.
  3. In your Engine/Plugins folder, find the Marketplace folder. Create it if not present.
  4. Find the Engine/Plugins/Marketplace/SkookumScript folder. Delete it if present.
  5. Unzip the plugin zip file into the Engine/Plugins/Marketplace folder. Again, make sure your engine version matches that of the plugin.
  6. After unzipping, there should be a SkookumScript folder inside your Engine/Plugins/Marketplace folder.
  7. Follow the instructions in Epic Games Launcher users - First-time install starting at step #6.
  8. Because you manually dowloaded the SkookumIDE, some anti-virus software such as Windows Defender SmartScreen may block running it. Follow the steps in Resolving installation issues as needed.
  9. If the UE4 Editor starts up without a :sk: icon in its toolbar, then the SkookumScript Plugin needs to be enabled. In the UE4 Editor go to Edit->Plugins, find the SkookumScript plugin and ensure that it has the Enabled check box with a check mark. It will restart the UE4 Editor and after that you should be set.

That’s it! The next time you run the Unreal Editor, the SkookumScript plugin will be available in all your projects.

Update an existing install to the latest version from zip file

Warning: This process may lose/overwrite some settings you may have changed or code you may have added to your Workbench console in the SkookumIDE. Preserving these changes or settings can be tricky – let us know in the forum if you would like to do this and we can help you.

  1. Locate the main folder of your installed Unreal Engine (for the 4.16 engine, find it at C:\Program Files\Epic Games\4.16).
  2. Inside the main engine folder, delete the sub folder Engine\Plugins\Marketplace\SkookumScript if present.
  3. Also delete the sub folder Engine\Content\SkookumScript if present.
  4. After this, simply follow the instructions for first-time install above.
